It also makes the image high quality and long-lasting, which is important when printing photos on canvas for preservation.  Sublimation uses heating elements when printing photos on canvas.  Through heat, dye is transferred to a specific medium by placing certain amounts of dye in areas depending on the amount of heat that is present.  Working with dye ribbons, the process is repeated four times, allowing each ribbon a chance to run its cycle.  The last cycle runs a clear over coating while printing photos on canvas, which is used as a laminate to further preserve the image.
